A Legacy of Service and Growth
Founded in 1958 by Arthur S. Sitterle, Jr., Comet Signs — then known as Comet Neon Advertising Co., Inc. — rapidly built a reputation for high quality and exceptional customer service. When company leadership passed to his son, Arthur S. “Pete” Sitterle III, in the 1990s, that same level of service and commitment was carried forward — but with the addition of manufacturing technology capabilities and a revitalized focus on growth.
Aiming to serve the entire state of Texas, Comet began strategically acquiring other signage companies — beginning in 2012 with Barker Sign Company out of Houston, Texas. Barker added new installation capabilities as well as expanded customer service solutions to Comet’s roster. The next year, Comet merged with Reynolds Sign in Irving, Texas to form Comet Signs, LLC — expanding its footprint in the sports industry and adding digital signage, electronic message centers (EMCs), and interior graphics.
Comet continued its growth path with the acquisition of more signage innovators serving the Texas market: State Sign in 2015, Design Center Signs (DCS) in 2017, and Custom Sign Creations in 2018. Today, Comet operates out of five Texas-based locations — three of which have more than 250,000 square feet of manufacturing space — and is headquartered out of its San Antonio facility, which has an additional 180,000 square feet of production space.
Joining the Stratus Family
In 2022, Stratus acquired Comet Signs to increase its presence in the Texas market and to provide Comet customers with expanded capabilities, such as our refresh and remodel services, energy capabilities, and facilities maintenance solutions. Additionally, welcoming Comet Signs to our organization means our manufacturing capabilities have expanded greatly, adding nearly one million more square feet of production space.
